Textual asks to be the default SMS app. Android only lets the default SMS app send, receive and store texts. You can switch back at any time in Android's Settings › Apps › Default apps › SMS app; your messages stay in Android's message database either way.

Coming from Google Messages? Turn off RCS chats in Google Messages first. Messages sent over RCS live only in Google Messages and won't appear in Textual.

Install Textual on your Wear OS watch, then on your phone open Linked devices › Link a device. A watch paired with the phone over Bluetooth links from its own pairing screen; otherwise enter the code shown on the phone.

Near your phone the watch syncs over Bluetooth; away from it, over the internet through the relay.

Open web.textual.aflabs.kiwi and enter the code from Linked devices › Link a device on your phone. Your phone must be online for the browser to work: nothing is stored on our servers.

Linked devices › Relay server lets you use a relay you run instead of ours, with an optional backup. Your linked devices move to it on their own. Everything through any relay is end-to-end encrypted.

Uninstalling Textual removes its private storage from your phone. Unlink a watch or browser in Linked devices to remove what it holds. To have diagnostics you sent deleted, email support@aflabs.kiwi. See the privacy policy.
